Quote Of The Moment

Don't listen to those who say, 'You're taking too big a chance.' Michelangelo would have painted the Sistine floor, and it would surely be rubbed out by today

Happy Birthday To Me

So its the big 38 today.

1st of all I have to thank my mother for continuing to be a bright shining light in my life

So I though I would do something different with this blog. Here are 38 things that I have learned in my 38 years.

WHAT I KNOW IS TRUE

1. My gut feelings are spot on

2. I am not supposed to get along with everyone, or make everyone like me
3.  There are always at least 2 choices, even if I don't like either of them
4.  Sometimes people are just begging for you to lay into them verbally. So don't feel bad
5. If you don't ask, the answer is always no
6. My silence is sometimes the best option
7.   There is always hope
8.   I can always be grateful for something
9.  Its not time that heals. Its what you do with that time.
10.  My life is my responsibility
11.  Complaining constantly only makes you miserable company
12.  If i'm not making mistakes, i'm not trying hard enough
13 You train people how to treat you
14. Emotion is not a sign of weakness. Knowing when its appropriate is a skill
15.  Google university is my friend
16.  My close friends are amazing
17.  Honesty is always the best policy
18.  Short term misery is always better than long term pain
19.  You should never stop learning, or trying to be a better version of yourself
20. Worry is useless, unless it motivates you to take action
21.  When people show you who they are , believe them
22.  There is only fear, and love. And only one of them is fun
23.  Success belongs to those who talk little but do a lot
24.  Before you complain about having too much on your plate , you should think about those who can't even sit at the table.
25.   The 3 C's in life :Choice, Chance, Change
26.  Leave sooner, drive slower, live longer.
27.  No matter how good it may seem, not every opportunity extended to you is meant for you
28. You can't let praise or criticism get to you. It's a weakness to get caught up in either one.
29.  Every step I take OUT of my comfort zone is one step closer to my destiny.
30. With the right attitude, you can let the very things that were meant to demolish you, polish you!
31.  Living well is the best revenge.
32. Never apologize for being single. Better to be someone who's single than someone who settled
33.  If someone starts backing away, the worst thing you can do is chase them. Give them space and let them figure it out
34. There are no exchanges or refunds on dignity or class. If you surrender yours, don't expect to get them back
35. I'd rather stay quiet than explain my problems to people that don't really car
36.  Success hugs you in private but Failure always slaps you in public
37. Do what makes you happy and not what makes others happy.
38.Everything happens for a reason. Maybe you don't see the reason; but when its finally revealed, it will blow you away

This song is simple but (shrug) its up their as one of my fav's.

Funny thing occurred a few weeks ago. I was out with Tasha Danvers walking down the street. All of a sudden she started singing this song. I gave her a "How you know that song?" look. Her response "I'm old love, and we grew up listening to the same stuff"  lol

Testing testing

So with my time off I have partied with friends, rested up and hung out with my family. My mum the ever "can you do this for me" has not disappointed. (bless)

A few weeks ago I got duped into a trip to PC World. What could she possibly want in a store like this? Currys and Comet yep understandable. But, she announces she wants a laptop. A laptop "why?" I ask. Now if you don't know my mother and her friends of the same age group its about keeping up with the Chucku's (A commonn Nigerian family name like Smith).  So who out of her group had a laptop that she now felt the need to match or better?

With feet dragging I ohhhhhed and at all the laptops that had screens flashing. Trying desperately to steer her away from anything that looked like a Mac. I personally was going for the cheapest thing possible. A little notebook. We settled on a full size Dell. Yep it looks like a tea tray from IKEA but at least she can see the keyboard.

And the the torture started. Who was going to teach her? Fingers hovering over the key board like shes in some typing class for the 1940s lasted all of 1 minute. Before she went for the good old 1 circle whilst looking for the letter and stab. (Jesus take me now) This is why when people ask me that age old question will you coach after track I say no. I do not have the patience.  I sit watching her try her best and reach for my phone looking to call my niece and offer her a fiver to come round and help out Grandma.

As to be expected the laptop sat up on top of the printer for a couple weeks until this week. Suddenly she has a new lease of life and what to learn how to send emails. Noooooooooooooooooooooooo  I scream inside. Email address set up. CHECK Teach mum about emails? How many excuses can I come up with. I find myself barking commands at her and think to myself. Why are you being so mean? The voice in my head replies "I can't help it. She's not listening".

And then that moment of clarity. Lets take her right back to basics. She sitting here right now doing an online typing course. I have not grunted at her in a good 15 mins. Shes at level 1 lesson 5 and shes got 92% accuracy. Yep speeds down to 7wpm. But, we aint arguing .  Yeah Team Mummy and Joice.

Now how long can I fob her off with typing tutors? Before she asks how to send emails again. This is just pay back for all the times she used the distract with something else trick on me.

Spirit of London Bike Rally

Please watch this video before reading the blog

Yesterday I attended the Spirit of London Bike Rally.

In true Tasha Danvers style. I received a lastminute.com BBM pin asking if I want to hang with her at and event. Being a little worse for wear from our previous night out I agreed and I'm glad I did.  Thanks Andre and his team for having me along

So lets give you a little detail about the Spirit of London Bike Rally. The event was held at Potters Fields  The event was a joint venture between Spirit of London Wards. SOLA, the Damiola Taylor Trust and Barclays Bank  Sadly Richard Taylor, Damiola's father was unable to attend.

The aim was to break the record for a choir on bikes. There was a pretty decent turn out.

I personally had a great afternoon.

In light of the riots that occured in London a few weeks ago. SOLA really needs our help. For every not so great kid there are 10 outstanding young adults in London who aspire to be enhance their communities.

Coming from London town myself. I never had a clue that Joice from South London would go on to achieve all the things I have. What i'm trying to say is not all the kids you see out on the street are bad.

I plan on supporting SOLA any way I can.

They will be holding their awards to celebrate the unsung young hero's of London. So please check out their site and vote, and find a way to get involved.

I know where I will be October 10 2011.  The Royal Albert Hall at the Spirit of London Awards.  Click the link to get your tickets.

Ain't nothing to see here darling

Yep its been more than a minute since my last blog.

My 2011 season has ended and I ponder my next moves. Coach has given me a month off and then I am due to start back. I'm pushing for October so I can get my ducks in a row.  The 2012 OGames circus when it rolls around is gonna be hectic to say the least. So maybe this premature end to the season is a blessing for my body.

I'm spending time with my family. As nephew number 1 in on summer break. So its death by children's tv, milkshakes and all the things 6 year old boys know they shouldn't be doing.

Now to the title of this blog. Well in terms of track this summer was hmmmmm interesting.  For the 1st time ever I think I allowed outside forces and people to get in my head. Yep they won. I gave a good fight now.  Its made me question myself, peoples motives and myself again. A healthy angry Joice is so not what they want going into the 2012 season. But hey that's what you got. Cause last time I checked. Karma is a bitch and she don't know when to stop.

So I didn't make the World Champs team. Hmmm been there before in 2005 and what a fab season I had in 2006. Thing is how many people on this Worlds team wont make the team next year? Damn I'm not the only person sitting at home from team GB. Life goes on.

Track allows us to dust ourselves off and come back again. Hard work is hard work is hard work.

Its the randoms that have tried to worm their way into my life this summer that has prompted this blog.  What is it they see in me that makes them what to pry into my life. Facebook requests, Linkedin requests from people I have never meet. Kinda defeats the purpose of the site if you ask me. I thought Linkedin was a little cleaner than Facebook. (I guess not) shrug.

Yesterday was a classic. A guy claiming to be a serial networker with 500 people on his list contacted me. In my head I'm thinking sponsor or he knows someone who can. Yeah right and pigs might fly. He told me he doesn't know anyone who can help. Well Sir, maybe you should forget networking and collect beer mats cause you suck at networking.

On a real note the OGames is around the corner and come September (October if I have my way) I have to get my head down and train like my life depends on it.

No word of a lie I need sponsors I have not been funded by my governing body since 2008. All serious sponsors are welcome and needed.

But if your looking to peer in the window and merely watch what I am up to. Please don't bother me I have work to do.  Like the title of this blog says. 'Aint nothing to see here darling'

I'm really just trying to achieve my own personal goals in an Olympic Games in my home town. Now how many people in their lifetime can experience that?

I'm looking for 'Team Joice' not sightseers. So who's with me?

Seats on the bus are limited.

Update

Well I must say its been a minute since I last blogged. So lets see if I can remember all that has happened.

Ive been racing with results that I have not been best pleased with.

Hengelo, Bydgoszcz and Strasbourg. A 3rd place in the 200m in Hengelo was pretty cool. Lane 2 and all. I had a stinker in Bydgoszcz not realizing I was not 100% until I tired to run. But, I was able to turn it around in Strasbourg and end the 1st half of the season with a 23.23 seasons best in the 200m.

Soon after I hoped on a plane and headed back to IMG Academies in Bradenton, Florida.  There is just something about being down here that makes me happy. The facility and the atmosphere here is enough to raise anyone up.

As I type this blog I have just finished my 1st week back. Running a time trail this am followed by weight room. The times were pretty decent consider the 90+ heat I was running in.

So that pretty much is me right about now. I'm just down here training and putting deposits back in the bank for the 2nd half of the outdoor season.

2011 Outdoor has started

So the seasons has started and not too shabby if I must say.

I began with a little meet in Orlando which was in my own words terrible. Putting my 1st race together after weeks of breaking down different aspects of the race was the worst. I didn't start and basically played catch up which you can't do in a 100m 11.7?.  I can't even remember that's how much attention I'm paying that race.

After that I flew home to London for a night and then headed up to Manchester for the street race. That Friday night I managed to fall ass over tit  down some fire exit stairs and tear the hell out of my right heel. Can anyone one say ouch. Blood all over the place and 2 nice chunks carved out of my heel. .

The street race was a wet and windy Sunday. I padded and tapped up the heel and ran the 200m.  Just before the start I asked an official where the finish line was.  He said 'run to that 1st traffic light' lol

Job done without dying a terrible death on TV. 23.6? (I need to get better at remembering these times). My heel was on fire by the end of the meet. But such is life.

I then spent the week in London preparing for the Loughborough match. Had the doping lady round who woke me up at 7pm. She got the moody slapped ass Joice. Does she have any idea how hard I am finding it to sleep right now?

Heel still very sore. I had now upgraded to Compeeds. But they keep fusing themselves into the healing wound. (Not nice)

Loughborough Meet

23.40 +2.4 (I won) what I like about this race was that people actually lined up to compete. Very rarely other than trials will we all be in the same place to line up against each other. My coach and I decided I would run as many 200s as possible before I race over the 100. The problem with Europe is that is hard to find 200s. So I decided not to double up in Loughborough. 200 and 4x100 was enough for the day.

Training at home alone always has its challenges. But this year I seem to have fallen into a win win. I stumbled upon Jade Johnson at Crystal Palace. If you don't know Jade is the original Gladiator when it comes to weightroom. (Which is my least favorite part of practice.) We have been lifting and running the odd intensive tempo sessions together. We compliment each other well in our weaknesses.

So Caroline my agent has me on a healthy race schedule. I'm off to Hengelo this weekend. With more races to follow.

I have some other fingers in pies which as they are solidified of course I will share with you.

But season wise I would say so far so good. I think 1 more week and I will be over the jet lag and in a good daily schedule.

Chat soon

Day 30 – A photograph of yourself today + three good things that have happened in the past 30 days

Well this 30 day challenge has come to an end. It was hard work trust me. (real talk)

So here is me today its blazing here in Florida. I had to put water down on the track just so I could place my hands and do starts.

3 Good things that happened these past 30 days

1. I had a difficult conversation with a friend. One that I did not want to have but, feel so much better now for having it. There is nothing worse than having thoughts that you don't think you can share. Of course it was not as bad as I imagined. : )

2. I reconnected with an old friend and we are getting on really well. You would not believe we had not communicated in 5 years.

3. I am in great shape.

And with that my 30 day challenge is over.

Thanks for reading

Must be a reason why I pack them and take them with me always. So I think they will be the perfect answer to this question.

Also I added 'Mr Froggie' he is actually some 15 years old. My cousins gave him to me one xmas when they were like 5 years old. Told me he would bring me luck when racing.  When its out of the mouth of babes you kinda have to listen right? I take him on all track and field related trips. So yep he made it to Florida too

Day 22 – Favorite book of last year

This book touched me when I read it last year. It had me go through all motions. I laughed and I cried. I cringed and I pondered.

" Orphaned by the death of her mother and left in the hands of a sadistic foster parent, young Cupcake Brown learned to survive by turning tricks, down hard liquor, and ingesting every drug she could fine while hitchhiking up and down the California coast. She stumbled into gang banging, drug dealing, hustling, prostitution, theft, and, eventually, the best scam of all: a series of 9-5 jobs.

A piece of Cake is unlike any memoir you'll ever read. Moving in its frankness, this is the most satisfying, startlingly funny, and genuinely affecting tour through hell you'll ever take."

Yep its a trueie

I have to add one more book 'The Help'  By Kathryn Stockett.
I just heard this book is being turned into a movie.

Day 21 – A photo of something that makes you happy.

That would be my nephew.
He's growing every day and gets funnier and funnier.
Little smart ass
