New Year Round The Corner - 2010 Here I Come

Its coming to the end of the year, and we all set these resolutions that we don't maintain past Jan 10. Ok that was a little harsh Jan 12. lol

I have been reading other blogs and saw a post which struck a cord.

I paraphrase when I say it went something like

As the year closes, we need to clear out our closets. Get rid of pieces we are or have been holding onto cause we are too scared to let it go. Trust, that floor length pink fur coat is HORRID. Oh, by the way, I'm not talking about clothes! I'm talking about getting rid of FRENEMIES that your to afraid of confronting. People who don't match with shit that you have going on in your life

I like it!!

On a another note I'm headed back to Atlanta. Its been great seeing and hanging with the family. My Nephew never ceases to amaze me with the things he says and does. Hes such a character.

2010 is around the corner and training alone in London has not been fun I can tell you that much. But, I have put the work in (deposits in the bank) and I will be drawing on this and all the other work I have put in during the 2010 season.

Quickish Xmas turn around

I’m headed home today for a xmas. Over the last couple of weeks, I have been missing my family a lot. Phones calls and emails just are not enough. So I’m looking forward to sitting up on my mum’s sofa watching cartoons with my nephew. Sitting in the kitchen with my sister having a proper catch up with a cup of hot chocolate and a packet of chocolate digestives and being dragged around IKEA by my mum.

It got me thinking about the small simple things we do that we over look until we are unable to do them. Now I’m not going to go into some long dialogue about the little thing s or anything like that. Lol

I have not blogged about practice for a while cause there is not much to report. We have all just been knuckling down and getting on with the work.
We have several new people in the group. So let me give you give you a roll call of whose in the group now.
I’m going to list in alphabetic order so no one get offended. Lol

Me'Lisa Barber

Danielle Carruthers

Walter Davis

Perdita Felicien

Steve Flemming

Ebonie Floyd Broadnax

Fanni Juhasz

Which makes me think I should revisit my bucket list and get to checking off some of my items.

New year around the corner and all that. I need to pick at least 10 and see how I fair.

But, for real we do talk a lot of hot air. lol

Ive learned

I would like to share this list

I've Learned-
that you cannot make someone love you. All you can do is be someone who can be loved. The rest is up to them.

I've learned-
that no matter how much I care, some people just don't care back.

I've learned-
that it takes years to build up trust, and only seconds to destroy it.

I've learned-
that no matter how good a friend is, they're going to hurt you every once in a while and you must forgive them for that.

I've learned-
that it's not what you have in your life but who you have in your life that counts.

I've learned-
that you should never ruin an apology with an excuse.

I've learned-
that you can get by on charm for about fifteen minutes. After that, you'd better know something.

I've learned-
that you shouldn't compare yourself to the best others can do.

I've learned-
that you can do something in an instant that will give you heartache for life.

I've learned-
that it's taking me a long time to become the person I want to be.

I've learned-
that you should always leave loved ones with loving words. It may be the last time you see them.

I've learned-
that you can keep going long after you can't.

I've learned-
that we are responsible for what we do, no matter how we feel.

I've learned-
that either you control your attitude or it controls you.

I've learned-
that regardless of how hot and steamy a relationship is at first, the passion fades and there had better be something else to take its place.

I've learned-
that heroes are the people who do what has to be done when it needs to be done, regardless of the consequences.

I've learned-
that money is a lousy way of keeping score.

I've learned-
that my best friend and I can do anything or nothing and have the best time.

I've learned-
that sometimes the people you expect to kick you when you're down will be the ones to help you get back up.

I've learned-
that sometimes when I'm angry I have the right to be angry, but that doesn't give me the right to be cruel.

I've learned-
that true friendship continues to grow, even over the longest distance. Same goes for true love.

I've learned-
that just because someone doesn't love you the way you want them to doesn't mean they don't love you with all they have.

I've learned-
that maturity has more to do with what types of experiences you've had and what you've learned from them and less to do with how many birthdays you've celebrated.

I've learned-
that you should never tell a child their dreams are unlikely or outlandish. Few things are more humiliating, and what a tragedy it would be if they believed it.

I've learned-
that your family won't always be there for you. It may seem funny, but people you aren't related to can take care of you and love you and teach you to trust people again. Families aren't biological.

I've learned-
that it isn't always enough to be forgiven by others. Sometimes you are to learn to forgive yourself.

I've learned-
that no matter how bad your heart is broken the world doesn't stop for your grief.

I've learned-
that our background and circumstances may have influenced who we are, but we are responsible for who we become.

I've learned-
that a rich person is not the one who has the most, but is one who needs the least.

I've learned-
that just because two people argue, it doesn't mean they don't love each other. And just because they don't argue, it doesn't mean they do.

I've learned-
that we don't have to change friends if we understand that friends change.

I've learned-
that you shouldn't be so eager to find out a secret. It could change your life forever.

I've learned-
that two people can look at the exact same thing and see something totally different.

I've learned-
that no matter how you try to protect your children, they will eventually get hurt and you will hurt in the process.

I've learned-
that even when you think you have no more to give, when a friend cries out to you, you will find the strength to help.

I've learned-
that credentials on the wall do not make you a decent human being.

I've learned-
that the people you care about most in life are taken from you too soon.

I've learned-
that it's hard to determine where to draw the line between being nice and not hurting people's feelings, and standing up for what you believe.

I've learned-
that people will forget what you said, and people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.

Quote of the day

Every choice in life either moves you forward or keeps you stuck.-----------------
Oprah Winfrey

If life is so short, why do we do so many things we don’t like and like so many things we don’t do?

I personally try not to be that person. People might think me selfish but, I try to march to my own drum. I have taken so many now I look back on them CRAZY chances. But, hey they worked out in the long run.

I remember hearing a speech by Steve Smith at the European Championships one year. His words stuck with me. Whats not surprising is that Steve went on to become a great motivational speaker used by business and professional sports people.

So what did he say?

It went something like this
"Your time in short so don't ever look back and say. I could have or I should have"

His words stuck and so for example when I took a redundancy package from a good full time job an announced I wanted to do contract work. I was given the side eye by friends. I have not had a full time job since. Contract work works for me.

Or when I flew to South Africa as a 20 something year old for a months training camp by myself. My Mum gave me the 'oh hell no you aint look at the airport when we realized no else was travelling with me. I made a friend in Agnes Samaria on that trip. Who is still a great friend of mine to this date.

I could go on with the some of the weird random things I have done.

All I say is take a chance you never know where you might land

A Little Inspiration

People are often unreasonable, illogical, and self-centered;
Forgive them anyway.
If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives;
Be kind anyway.
If you are successful, you will win some false friends and some true enemies;
Succeed anyway.
If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you;
Be honest and frank anyway.
What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight;
Build anyway.
If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous;
Be happy anyway.
The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow;
Do good anyway.
Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough;
Give the world the best you've got anyway.
You see, in the final analysis, It is between you and God;
It never was between you and them anyway.

I have one friend who is several year younger than my but, I call her the old soul. She so reminds me of a woman my mothers age. The wise comments that come out of her mouth never cease to amaze me.

From "You don't want these kinda problems' referring basically to please dont mess with me because you wont like the end result. To 'Sometimes Joice you have to eat shit with a knife and fork and pretend you like it'. Meaning you have to suck up certain situations until your in a position to do something about it.

So back to the question posed. No I don't think I act my age but then again I am far from a wet behind the ears kid.

So I would like to say my number is 29.

Whats yours and reasons why.

I dont want to but it looks like its going that way

You dont want to what Joice?

I have been in pain for the last week and a half. Even ended up in the Emergency Room. Not a good look for a Brit in the USA. But, it got that bad that I had to go.

It started off as an ear ache and then turned into excruciating pain on the left side of my mouth and face. Suspected ear infection. Right now I would take the ear infection. Nope it ended being my damn Wisdom Teeth. Then bitches are on the move and I hurt like hell. Actually hell dont even come close.

Antibiotics and pain killers have palliated the pain. But, this morning it appears I am losing this battle. So it looks like I might be taking my butt home to get the offending teeth removed.

Now the fear kicks in because I have heard the stories about people having ribs cracked while out cold. The dentist gets carried away and lets say leans a little too hard on the patients chest.

So the toss up is should I be out cold or tough it up and go under local anesthetic?

Truth be know as the title of this blog say. I DON'T WANT TO

Precious

This past weekend I went to watch the movie 'Precious' with my friend and training partner Avard. Earlier in the week some of us in the group discussed the movie. People commented on the people who were staring Mo'Nique, Paula Patton, Mariah Carey, and Lenny Kravitz.

It was not a movie that when I saw the trailer I had a burning desire to go see. But, I'm glad I did. I found the movie disturbing and funny in some parts. There were characters that I see in my day to day activities. A couple times Avard and I looked at each other and laughed as we both recognized these people. Other times we cringed and other times we looked at each other in shock.

Precious is based on the Novel Push by Sapphire. The story is very disturbing."Precious' is a 16/17 year old high school student who is raped by her father producing two children and abused by her mother. Shes illiterate, plus sized and basically unnoticed. She enrolls in an alternative school in hope that her life can head in a new direction.

WOW!! is all I kept saying all the way through the movie. My mouth stayed open in shock and I covered my eyes several time. I think I must be a light weight or had a very sheltered life.

Mo'Nique played the hell out of the role of the most disgusting mother imaginable. I absolutely hated her thats good she was.

I came away from the movie with a reaffirmed appreciation for education and being raised by GOOD parents. Simple things i realize I take for granted like being able to read and write.

I shake my head and thank God for the life that I have.

Go watch it if you can
